Discover Chiang Dao #CNX-904
A guided private tour to Chiang Dao, 80 km north of Chiang Mai City, which will take you far into the countryside. The main attraction there is Thum Chiang Dao, a giant cave temple with beautiful stalagmite and stalactite. The hills east of Chiang Dao are home to various hill tribe villages and you will visit one of them, this beside other interesting stops on route to give you the quaint Northern Thailand feeling.
Available as a private tour, minimum 2 persons, daily from/to Chiang Mai
At time 08.00 our tour guide and driver will pick you up from the hotel in Chiang Mai. Leave the city in northern direction. Drive for about one hour and on route take a quick stroll over the local country side market of Mae Malai, where some exotic fruits and snacks are offered.
Later at the elephant camp on the river banks you can watch these giants take their morning bath in the river. An OPTIONAL one hour trip on a bamboo raft down the river can be arranged (please inform us at the time of booking or tell your tour guide at the start of the tour, if you wish to do so!).
The hills east of Chiang Dao are home of some groups of ethnic minorities and you will visit one of the rare Palong hill tribe villages.
The Palong is the smallest group of hill tribes in Thailand and all live in the province of Chiang Mai, not far from the border with Myanmar, from where they originate. They live in simple wooden houses built on stilts. They mostly engage in growing tea, chili, sugar canes and vegetables.
Lunch break will be on route at a local restaurant.
After lunch explore the main attraction of the area, which is the mystic Chiang Dao cave temple with impressing stalactite and stalagmite.
On your return to the northern capital visit some more sights such as Wat Ban Den, a truly unusual and attractive temple here in the countryside and an orchid farm in Mae Rim. You will be back at the hotel in Chiang Mai by late afternoon.
