DAY 1 SIEM REAP - KAMPONG THOM L
In the morning pick up from the hotel or airport in Siem Reap. Leave the city and first take a boat trip on the Tonle Sap Lake to visit the Chong Kneas floating village. Here you can observe the daily simple life on the water. Then continue on the road along rural country side. Next stop will be at the ancient Angkorian Kampong Kdei Bridge. Then travel on towards Kampong Thom for your lunch break. In the afternoon do a side trip to visit Sambo Prei Kub, a group of 7th century pre Angkorian temple ruins. Return to Kampong Thom for overnight.
DAY 2 KAMPONG THOM - KRATIE B/L
After breakfast leave the city of Kampong Thom and drive towards Kampong Cham. Here visit Wat Nokor Bayon, a temple with a large reclining Buddha statue. In the town center take a stroll over the bustling local market. Another stop is possible at the spider village of Sukon. After lunch at a local restaurant cross the Mekong River and continue along rural country side to Kratie. The route will be close to the Mekong for this part of the journey. Take a brief stop at a rubber plantation. Finally reach Kratie, a sleepy town on the banks of the Mekong River. In the late afternoon take a short boat trip on the Mekong to watch some of the rare Irrawaddy Dolphins. Sadly there are less than 100 dolphins left in that area from that endangered species. Return to Kratie for overnight.
DAY 3 KRATIE - CHAMPASAK B/L
In the morning we recommend to take a walk along the Mekong in this peaceful provincial town. Then leave Kratie and drive via Stung Treng to the Cambodian-Lao border, where the driver and tour guide of our Laotian partner agency will wait for you. Stamp your passport at the Cambodian- and Laotian immigration. Then have lunch at the spectacular Khone Phapeng falls, where the Mekong takes a thunderous deep. Later in the afternoon travel on to Champasak, where you will spend the night.
DAY 4 CHAMPASAK - BOLAVEN PLATEAU - PAKSE B/L
After breakfast first visit the nearby archaeological site of Vat Phou, another pre Angkorian 10th century temple. Afterwards take a tour in to the hills of the Bolaven Plateau, an area well known for their plantations and production of tee- and coffee. It is also the home of many ethnic minorities like Katou and others. Stop at some of these villages. In the late afternoon finally you will arrive in Pakse for overnight.
