Colorful temples of Chiang Rai #CNX-907
An intensive day tour to Chiang Rai for people with little time. About 380 km are covered and you will spend quite some hours in the minibus. Im terms of beauty, colors, designs and works of art, Chiang Rai is certainly one of the provinces with some of Thailand's most interesting temples. Chiang Rai Province is located north of Chiang Mai in the border area with Myanmar and Laos.

Pick up from the hotel in Chiang Mai will be early morning around time 07.30. This is followed by the drive north to the province of Chiang Rai with a coffee break on route at the hot springs of Mae Kachan.
The first detailed stop follows at Wat Rong Khun (White Temple), certainly the most famous temple in Chiang Rai. It is completely covered with white tiles. You can spend hours just looking at it, it's an absolutely fascinating place. There is so much to learn about Thai artist Chalermchai Kositpipat, who created Wat Rong Khun.
Shortly later, the next highlight is Wat Rong Suer Ten, also known as the Blue Temple. This temple is absolutely enchanting and was was built to represent heaven on earth. As soon as you enter this colorful temple, a sense of calm sets in. You will be amazed by the details and beauty of the mosaic work.
Afterwards it is time for lunch break.
Next, visit Baan Dam. Famous Thai artist Thawan Duchanee created the Black House in Chiang Rai, a collection of about 40 buildings scattered around the grounds of his last residence. A unique combination of traditional northern Thai buildings and modern art, an unforgettable and strange experience.
Last but not least, drive to Wat Huay Pla Kang. This temple is dedicated to Guan Yin, a female Buddha, the Chinese goddess of mercy. The statue is located behind the temple. The white Guan Yin statue is 9 stories high and is often referred to as "The Great Buddha of Chiang Rai", but it is not a Buddha. The view from the top of the mountain is breathtaking.
In the late afternoon it is time for the return trip to Chiang Mai, where you will be back at your booked hotel about time 19.00.
