DAY 1 PAKSE - BOLAVEN PLATEAU

In the morning you will be picked up from the hotel or airport in Pakse and start your tour. Head direct to the Bolawen Plateau, a strong agricultural base with coffee, tea and cardamom plantations. It is also home of many ethnic minorities. Stop at a village of the Katou and learn more about traditional rural life out here. Take your lunch break at picturesque Tad Lo waterfall. In the afternoon see more ethnic villages, such as the Alak and Ngea. Drive on to Paksong for overnight. There is some time left to relax or take stroll to explore the surroundings.

DAY 2 BOLAVEN PLATEAU - CHAMPASAK F

After breakfast descent back to the valley, enjoy the nice mountain scenery and local rural villages until you reach the Mekong River and the main village in this area, which is Champasak. From here take a side trip and explore the Angkor temple of Vat Phou. This ancient stone palace located in the mountain wilderness is an architectural marvel. Then heading back to Champasak. Time to explore the provincial town. Overnight.

DAY 3 CHAMPASAK - KHONG ISLAND F

In the morning continue by boat in southern direction to the 4000 river islands. Here in some areas the Mekong River is 14 km wide. Then get off the boat at the laid back island of Don Khone. Here you can also see some remains of the French's occupation, such as an old locomotive, a railway line and the bridge to the island of Don Det. Enjoy the many small green islands and observe the locals fishing with fish nets and traps. After lunch take the boat back to the main land and head towards the Cambodian border, which is the site of the spectacular Khone Phapheng Falls, where the Mekong takes a deep. Later take the ferry to Don Khong, which is the biggest one of the numerous river islands and also spend the night here.

DAY 4 KHONG ISLAND - PAKSE F

After breakfast you will have the opportunity for a walk over the local market. Then cross the Mekong back to the main land. Later have a stop at Ban Kiet Khong and enjoy a one hour elephant ride through the wilderness. Lunch on route at a local restaurant. Arrive Paske early afternoon. Transfer to the booked hotel or airport, depends on your further journey. On request transfer to the Lao-Thai border crossing of Chong Mek or all the way to Ubon Ratchathani (Thailand) can be arranged.

REMARKS/FLEXIBILITY:

• Visa for Laos available on arrival at the Thai-Laotian border crossing of Chong Mek (Ubon Ratchathani), but also at Pakse Airport and all other major border crossings and airports in Laos. This against a fee of US$ 40.- (bring passport pictures with you!).
• Accommodation before and/or after the tour in Pakse can be booked with us.
• Instead travel back to Pakse on day 4 it is also possible to travel overland to Cambodia. If you wish to do so, just let us know at the time of booking.

From/to Bangkok (Thailand) to/from Ubon Ratchathani flights by Thai Smile, Thai Air Asia, Thai Lion Air, Nok Air and then by overland transfer via border check point Chong Mek.
