DAY 1 LUANG PRABANG - PHONSAVAN

In the morning pick from the hotel in Luang Prabang. Leave the former royal town and start for a scenic trip on some steep and winding roads along a scenic mountain wilderness. On route stop at various villages of ethnic minorities (most belong to the Hmong and Khmu hill tribes) and get an impression about the simple daily life out here. Later visit a Buddha cave, which was used as an army hospital during the Vietnam war. You will arrive in Phonesavan, the capital of Xiengkhouang Province by late afternoon and spend the night here.

DAY 2 PHONSAVAN F

After breakfast visit the local market of the provincial town, where the locals trade all kind of goods (vegetables, fruits, handicrafts etc.). Then tour the main sites at the Plain of Jars, where hundreds of large stone jars are littered all over. Some are 3 meters high and weight up to 6000 kg. An impressive archaeological site and a mystery until today. Before you return to the hotel in Phonesavan visit another Hmong hill tribe village. Spend one more night in Phonsavan.

DAY 3 PHONSAVAN - VIENTIANE F

Leave Phonsavan early in the morning as the distance of today's journey is a bit a long one (approx. 280 km). First continue through the mountain wilderness with some brief stops on route, such as at the temple ruins of Muang Khoun and at villages of ethnic minorities of the Hmong, Phuan etc. In the afternoon reach Vientiane and take a short city tour to see some of the major sights like That Luang Stupa etc. Transfer to the hotel and overnight in the Lao capital.

DAY 4 VIENTIANE F

Time is free at leisure until your transfer to Vientiane Airport or the border crossing to Nong Khai (Thailand) at the Friendship Bridge. End of the tour.

REMARKS/FLEXIBILITY:

• Visa for Laos available on arrival in Luang Prabang against a fee of US$ 40.- (bring passport pictures with you!).
• Additional nights before and/or after the tour in Luang Prabang and Vientiane can be booked with us.
• This tour is also available v. v. with start in Vientiane and end of the trip in Luang Prabang
• The program can also be modified with end of the overland trip in Phonsavan on day 2 and then from there you can book a flight to Vientiane with us.
